Where the hell is Anna?

Vancouver, British Columbia

Bri and I are in Vancouver, about to head back to Seattle to start my new life and whatnot. We meandered around the city all day yesterday, but I still don’t know what’s up with Vancouver. Did we miss all the cool parts? At least we met our goals: eating at Tim Horton’s and eating poutine. Also, Vancouver had the best pizza I’ve ever eaten. So foodwise, Vancouver knows what’s up. Otherwise, I’m not so sure. And it’s cold! I didn’t think it would be that much colder than Seattle, but it was! Ok, not unbearably cold, but there were a few times we had to stop into a shop just to warm up. There are apparently a lot of good parks there, but for us, it was too cold to really enjoy being outdoors. Maybe we’ll give it another shot someday.

So, the cool parts: Canadian money is awesome and the RBC bank has two really cute tellers that let me take their pictures with the money. So that was a good start. We took the money, found a place to park (cheap! $4.00 all day on the weekend) and found this awesome pizza just by following our noses. It was a buck-fifty per slice and the best pizza I’ve ever had, and it doesn’t even have a yelp review! I had to write one! So yeah, we walked around trying to find something to do, looked at some fancy shops like Louis Vutton and Gucci and Brianna taught me about the finer things in life (like purses) and the not-so-finer things in life (like racism). We got some Tim Horton’s, which is the Canadian equivalent to Dunkin’ Donuts, but better. The coffee was good, nothing special, but good, smooth and not bitter. The donuts were actually really good, the cake donuts were moist, unlike most cake donuts I’ve had. The blueberry-filled actually had little bits of blueberry in the dough too.

So when we got tired of walking, we drove around. The city wasn’t too hard to navigate, but everything was under construction because they’re getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics, so I guess it will be prettier to look at in a year or two. We went to some pub that played nothing but Santana and had poutine and a burger. The burger was good and the poutine was okay. I can at least say I’ve had it now. Maybe there’s a better one out there, should’ve checked out the yelp, I guess.

So we came back, internetted, watched a movie and had a good night in. I started looking at job postings in Seattle. I just need to beef up my resume now. I hate this part. Looking for a job sucks. Maybe I’ll get a job at a shipyard in Bremerton. Seattle Jen’s husband was saying that you just pretty much sit around and get real paid. I think I could handle that. But I could also handle being a resposible adult with a classroom of children! All I really want to do is hang out with kids all day, is that too much to ask? We’ll see, Seattle. We’ll see.
